My name is Peta and I launched my business, Dragonfly Chinese Medicine, to help my clients achieve their goals by offering the kind of personalised, one-on-one service and attention that I feel is essential for true healing.

This takes time and it’s a process of self discovery.

It’s my joy to support you in that journey – be it to have a calm or ecstatic birth, or to achieve your fertility goals, to enjoy a smooth transition through menopause, or to live a life with enhanced wellbeing.

What’s with all the birth talk?

My first birth rocketed me from the wonder and discovery of revelling in my pregnant body, to crying every day for months and feeling like I’d somehow failed. Somewhere between being admitted to hospital and discharged, I’d lost a part of me that I could never get back.

My second birth was different. It was a moment that, to this day, fills me with feelings of triumph, ecstasy, love and connection to a power I can only describe as bliss.

It was not by chance that my second birth was so empowering. Throughout my pregnancy I consciously prepared myself in a way I hadn’t for my first.

What I learned along the way continues to influence all that I do.

I discovered the huge gap between the cultural belief about birth as something to fear and mistrust VERSUS evidence of the love and ease with which women’s bodies are designed to birth.

I discovered it is fear, and only fear, that is at the root of all pain and tension and problems in birth, whereas Nature has designed for babies to be born in a loving, gentle and easy way.

My birth preparation changed my beliefs about birth.

I learnt that birth does not have to be painful or an ordeal or a medical event. I learnt that birth is a very natural event that may be intense but also calm and intimate, loving and triumphant. Ecstatic.

Key to this is providing support to women that builds confidence and trust their body.

My studies in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Eastern Wisdom coincided with my personal journey into pregnancy, birth and Western Wise Women traditions. Traditional Chinese Medicine taught me a 5000 year old theory of a health care based on working with natural processes. At the same time my double degree meant I studied Western Health Sciences and the medical model of health care that had influenced most of my cultural beliefs about health.

Until I studied Chinese Medicine, I’d never questioned there may be another way to look at health. In the same way, until I met an Independent Midwife I’d never questioned other models of antenatal care aside from hospital and the medical model.

Opening my mind and my heart to new ways of being have led me to greater health and wellbeing, and to experiencing birth as one of the most joyous and ecstatic moments of my life.

What I love best is being able to use what I have learnt along the way to help you, too.

Want to know more about me?

I’m a Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine and a registered practitioner of Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine, having completed a Bachelor of Applied Science (Chinese Medicine) and a Bachelor of Applied Science (Human Biology) at RMIT University in Bundoora as well as my Clinical Internship at Nanjing University of Traditional Medicine in Nanjing, China.

I’m also trained as a Doula, a Birth Educator & Birth Mindset Mentor and I’m an Ecstatic Birth Practitioner. I’m the creator of the course Breathe.Believe.Birth with Ease that supports women to achieve a great birth using mindset, breathing and relaxation techniques. I’m an Advocate of the Desilets Method of Jade Egg practices, teaching women to awaken and reconnect to their sexuality and sensual nature. My aim is to practice what I preach and embody what I teach. I’m schooled in the Women’s Mysteries Traditions and as a Temple Priestess I hold the lineage keys to the ancient Egyptian Snake Goddess Wadjet, protector of childbirth and the cycle of birth, death and rebirth.

A few other random things about me…

  • I’m a mother to two adult daughters. I don’t feel old enough to say that.
  • I’m a little lazy with my speech. I tend to not say ‘th’, which means feather becomes feva. I love fevas.
  • I’ve been practicing yoga for about 20 years. Then I discovered the delicious Jade Egg and Sacred Teachings of the Jade Goddess as taught by Saida Desilets and totally fell in love with these feminine qi gong practices. Yum.
  • Speaking of yum, providing nutritious meals is my biggest daily challenge. There’s nothing that stresses me more then knowing it’s 5pm and I don’t have a plan for dinner. My dream is to have a personal chef! It’s going to happen one day (feel free to apply…).
  • I’ve always been attracted to exploring altered states of consciousness and the mind. The dragonfly symbolizes the ability to see through the illusion of ‘reality’. In my twenties I took the recreational party route, now I use meditation and qi gong techniques.
  • I wear a lot of black. That’s me in my element: dark, mysterious, feminine and feline. It’s also great for concealment.
  • I’m a compulsive journal keeper. It keeps me connected. Recently I’ve learnt to use it as powerful tool for manifesting my desires.
  • Don’t get me started on birth talk unless you’re ready to have your mind blown open! I’m passionate about teaching the truth of birth and women’s bodies and I’m here to ignite, in those who desire it, the innate power and gifts of the goddess. Follow the yin…xx
